Become a Bedfordshire Sight Loss Council Member

Are you interested in making improvements for visually impaired people in specific aspects of local life, such as health, transport, education, employment, youth or sport?

Anyone over 18 who is Partially Sighted or Blind and lives in Bedfordshire can become a Sight Loss Council Member.

Council Members are part-time volunteers. They get a great deal of satisfaction in seeing local services become more accessible and more suitable for people with little or no sight.

Are you the kind of person we are looking for?

We need people who have:

To become a Bedfordshire Sight Loss Council Member you will need to attend an informal interview, provide two references and show that you have some knowledge and experience of the topic you have chosen. This can be as a customer, service user, employee or volunteer.

We will provide free training about how to advocate and lobby constructively for change, how to negotiate, and how to mobilise support. If you need help with public speaking, writing letters or reports we will help with that too.

You will get reasonable expenses repaid.
