We recently spoke to TV Licensing who told us there has been an increase in scammers targeting its customers during coronavirus. TV Licensing are encouraging people to be wary of letters, emails, texts or phone calls that promise more or a refund for their TV Licence.

Below is some advice on how to recognise potential scam emails with three simple steps: STOP-CHECK-ASK.

What to check after receiving an email from TV Licensing:

  1. The sender: Genuine TV Licensing will be sent from donotreply@tvlicensing.co.uk or donotreply@spp.tvlicensing.co.uk.
  2. The spelling and grammar: Be suspicious of odd capital letters or other grammatical errors.
  3. The license number: Scammers may use a false one and hope it goes unnoticed.
  4. For your name: We will use a customers’ last name and title. Many scams simply use the email address or say ‘Dear Customer’.
