Services
How do we support people?
Our underlying philosophy is to provide a support service that is tailored to the needs of each person we work with and so most of our conversations will start with “what do you want”. By being flexible in the way we offer our support, we can make the best possible use of our resources and each individual circumstance.
Peer Support Calls
Our Peer Support Service is here to help those who are newly diagnosed or have had recent, significant deterioration of their sight.
News and views magazine
Sight Concern Bedfordshire produces it’s own in-house magazine. This is produced four times a year and is available in variety of formats.
Talking News
Sight Concern hosts the Talking News service for The Dunstable Gazette, Leighton Buzzard Observer and Luton News.
IT training and support
There are a number of IT Clubs which provide support on a wide range of IT equipment including iPhones, iPads, laptops.
Social Clubs
We have different social clubs and societies that meet across Luton, Dunstable and Bedford.
Telephone Befriending Service
We provide a telephone based befriending service with a scheduled weekly call to chat about life, the universe and everything.
Specialist Advice
In Luton we employ specialist Visual Impairment Advisors who carry out detailed, personalised assessments of your needs and work with you to develop and implement a support plan. In Central Bedfordshire we provide access to Sensory Impairment Advisors which extends our support to also cover clients suffering with hearing loss. Both the Visual Impairment Advisors and Sensory Impairment Advisors can come to visit you at home.
Low Vision Clinics
Sight Concern provide Low Vision Clinics which are held at our offices in Bedford and Luton and are funded by the NHS.
